Dungannon Swifts blew hot and cold on a wintry afternoon before supersub Gary Liggett claimed a place for them in the sixth round of the Irish Cup, his brace of goals in extra time giving the home side a 4-2 win over Ballinamallard United.

Matt Hazley pounced to give Swifts the lead after just two minutes in at Stangmore Park, and he set up the chance from which Jamie Glackin made it 2-0 on eighteen minutes, Darren Murphy’s seemingly team in cruise control.

But, despite continuing to dominate the exchanges throughout, the hosts failed to add to their lead and they were stunned by a couple of second half goals from the Fermanagh men which forced the match into overtime.

That was the cue for Liggett to show the predatory skills that once made him one of the most feared strikers in local football, his two goals deservedly earning Swifts a trip to Dixon Park to face Championship Two side Ballyclare Comrades next month for a place in the quarter-finals.
