Cookstown U11 5 Loughgall 7
The first eleven-a-side game by the new batch from the Development Centre didn’t disappoint with a 12-goal game just going the way of the visitors Loughgall.
The first game for the new CYFC U11s started brightly with a strong starting eleven which saw Zach Ferson score his first hat-trick for the club.
Peter Bell also hit the back of the net with a 30 yard goal and dominated the midfield on occasions to receive man of the match for his contribution.
Overall, this was a great performance by all the lads in their first competitive game against a Loughgall team who play in the George Best League.
A big thank you to Andy Warwick for his help on the day from the coaching team of Scott and O’Rourke.
New Manager Jonny Scott and his assistant Barry O’Rourke were more than impressed with their team’s performance and with a bit more practise and game time this team should settle in nicely into the Mid Ulster Youth League when the new season starts in September.
Everyone at CYFC wish Jonny and Barry and their young squad all the very best for the year ahead.
NATIONAL LEAGUE STATUS
Cookstown Youth FC continued growth and success will be rewarded in the new Season when they will be fielding four teams in the National League.
The National League is the cream of the crop of Youth Football in Northern Ireland and next year’s UCYFC 15s (who competed in the League last season) will be joined by Nigel Talbot’s U13s, Andy Kelly’s U14s and Micky Teague’s U16s in what is a great boost for the Club.
Next Seasons U14s Manager and Club PRO Andy Kelly stated, “This is a great opportunity for the players of the Club to compete against the best teams in the country and in my opinion they will develop better by playing against better players week in, week out.
“As for Cookstown Youth, this is another step up for our Club which has progressed and grown over the last twenty one years due to the commitment of its Development Centre which is the breeding ground for the teams.”
