THERE were jubilant scenes in Celtic Park, Derry on Sunday afternoon as Ballinderry claimed the Derry Senior football championship for the second consecutive season and the twelfth time in the club’s history.

The Shamrocks were deserving 1-10 to 0-10 victors over a Slaughtneil side that pushed them all the way.

There were nervy moments for the Balinderry faithful during the second half as defender Raymond Wilson received his march oredrs from referee Sean Hamill and the Emmets clawed back the gap.

Two late frees from Conleth Gilligan however eased the Ballinderry nerves as Martin McKinless captured his fourth senior title in four years in charge of the Shamrocks.

They will now face Tyrone side Errigal Ciaran in the Ulster club championship on November 4th.

Errigal will be without their manager, Ballinderry man Ronan McGuckin who has taken a leave of absence from the post until after the tie.
