Tattyreagh advance to the last eight

Tattyreagh’s recent good run of form continued at Killyclogher on Friday evening when they recovered from conceding an early goal to advance to the quarter-finals of the Junior championship at the expense of Castlederg, writes Kevin Kelly.

The Tatts had the wind at their backs in the first half but after opening the scoring through a Conor Taggart free they were hit with a sucker punch in the second minute when Kevin Connolly sent Patrick Lynch through for a well-taken goal. That setback only served to get Tattyreagh going and in the sixth minute they grabbed a goal of their own when Declan Gallagher palmed the ball to the net from close range after Castlederg keeper Chris Catterson had saved well from Mark Darcy.

That was the beginning of a spell that effectively won the game for Tattyreagh as that added another five points with defenders Damian Mullan, Ryan Pritchard and Gareth Gormley all getting their names on the score sheet. Mark Corry stopped the rot for Castlederg from a free and he added another two points late in the half to leave it 1-8 to 1-3 at the interval.

Castlederg introduced county minor Caolan Harvey at the break but it was another substitute who almost gave them a dream start with Paul Emmett McGarvey’s fierce shot just clearing the crossbar.

Corry then reduced the gap further before Tattyreagh responded through Ciaran Harkin and Kevin Gallagher.

Tattyreagh then went a quarter of an hour without registering as Castlederg fought back with scores from Lynch and Tony Breen although they could have been closer as they were wasteful in front off the posts.

Substitute Adrian Harley then showed great strength to hold off a couple of challenges to get a much needed score for the winners.

Corry knocked over a couple of frees but either side of that Tattyreagh kept the scoreboard ticking over through Mark Darcy and substitute Duncan Hydman and when the final whistle sounded they were worthy winners.
