Hurling at senior level has taken a break over the past ten days, although our seniors go to Middletown on Tuesday in Armagh League. A number of players are away on holidays but this offers other panel members the opportunity to earn a place.
Eoghan Ruadh U12s had a productive run-out against Slaughtneil on Saturday past in the North Antrim League. Playing against a strong breeze, Eoghan Ruadh fought well to be still in touch at halftime. Sean McGeary, Conall Devlin and Cain Ferguson battled superbly. Ben Gormley, Cain Ferguson and Fearghal Donaghy managed to grab the all important goals. With the breeze on our backs, the second half saw Eoghan Ruadh with all the possession but short on conversion. We probably could have scored more and, after persistent effort, Cain Ferguson grabbed another goal and Luke Campbell and Rory Weir tapped over delightful points. The man of match award went to the ever hard-working Philip McGrath who just refused to give up all afternoon. Team: Conor McAleer, Gareth Hughes, Rory Weir, Matthew McCann, Conan McCurry, Conall Devlin, Aaron Kerr, Sean McGeary, Fearghal Donaghy, Phillip McGrath, Ben Gormley, Patrick Keogh, Jack Toner, Cain Ferguson, Caithoir Molloy. Subs; David Kelly, Luke Campbell, Michael Little. Again thanks to those parents who helped out with transport, your support is greatly appreciated! U12/U14 fixture away to Rossa next Saturday. A date has still to be set for the U14 Championship final.
Eoghan Ruadh was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of Siobhán Daly (née McBride). Siobhán’s father (Bernie McBride) was one of the founding members of Eoghan Ruadh and, indeed, was a recipient of the first Hall of Fame award, while her bother, the late Brian McBride, also hurled for Eoghan Ruadh for many years. Siobhán was to inherit that love of all things Gaelic and her children play an active role in the Thomas Clarkes and Aodh Ruadh football teams. To her sorrowing husband Seamus, daughters Niamh, Louise, Jennifer, sons Connor and Thomas, Siobhán’s mother Jean, sisters Éilís and Máire and the entire Daly/McBride family circle we extend our deepest sympathy. Go ndéanfaidh Dia Trócaire ar a hanam.
