Saturday saw Dungannon bounce back from last weeks’ defeat with a win on the road against Castlederg.

Dungannon started well and within the first few minutes this pressure was rewarded when Laura Kennedy converted a cross from Andrea McKay to make it 1-0 to Dungannon.

It took a little longer for Dungannon’s second goal to come but some good interplay between Jill Swann and Andrea McKay resulted in Andrea having an opportunity to shoot. As the Derg keeper went down to save Andrea calmly lifted the ball over the keeper to double Dungannon’s lead.

Although Catlederg put Dungannon’s goal under pressure towards the end of the half Dungannon’s defence held strong with several crucial saves from Victoria Kerr to ensure Dungannon maintained their two goal lead into the half time break.

Derg came out strong at the start of the second half and Dungannon was pressed immediately into defence. Dungannon defend well as a unit led by the forward line.

Emma Boyd had a great game in defence coming out top after a tough battle with one of Castlederg’s strongest most experienced players. As Dungannon started to see more of the ball towards the middle of the half and began to build their game again, passing increased and Derg’s defence were put under pressure.

Two minutes before the end of the game a ball out from Dungannon’s defence found Andrea McKay who flew down the pitch beating a couple of Derg players to enter the circle and win a penalty corner. A well worked penalty corner move saw Lynda McQueen scoring to finish the game off for Dungannon, and allow the East Tyrone team to return home with all three points.

Many thanks to David Reid for umpiring, Norman Purdy for coaching and all those who came to lend support from the sidelines.

Dungannon Ladies Hockey Club would like to wish all our supporters a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. The season will resume on Saturday January 5 with a home game against Knock.

Dungannon: Victoria Kerr, Lyndsey Purdy, Emma McMullan, Emma Boyd, Claire Weir, Sarah Winslow, Lynda McQueen (Captain), Karen Elliot, Laura Kennedy, Jill Swann and Andrea McKay.
