Dungannon pair into provincial semis
Golfers Kevin Kelly and Raymond McCann INTT2312-214JS
The splendid news which caused great excitement throughout Dungannon Golf Club is that Raymond McCann and Kevin Kelly playing for the Irish Mail Foursomes beat Ashfield on the 17th hole at home and are thus through to the provincial semi-finals of this very prestigious competition.
Details of their opponents are not known, but two more wins would send them through to the All-Ireland smei-finals weekend at the Carton House complex in September.
Meantime, Lawson Cup team, captained by Michael Rea, won at home on Sunday against Strabane, so they are through to the next round. And the Junior Cowdy team, captained by Jim Burnside, won at home against Kilkeel on Sunday. They are four matches up and play their return match within the next couple of weeks.
The Sam Rutherford team, captained by Noel Gormley, played at Lisburn on Saturday and won, so they are through to the next round.
The Ladies Intermediate team, captained by Ann Shields travelled to Co Cavan for the return leg of their match and won through to the next round.
The Ladies Minor Cup team, captained by Kathleen Boyle, travelled to Portsalon for the return leg of their match and won by six holes so they are through to meet either Castlereagh Hills or Malone.

Roisin, worthy winner
The Ladies had a very enjoyable weekend at Slieve Russell Hotel and Country Club, 25 ladies attending. The weather was good, the craic mighty, the golf also something else.
Winner of the Elizabeth Alexander Trophy was Roisin Kelly with 35 points, her success coming courtesy of a better back nine from Deirdre O’Rourke - and in third place was Karen Hetherington with 33 points.
Lorraine magnificent
The ladies were out in force last Tuesday for the annual Darren Clarke MS Qualifier, which was sponsored by Cavanagh Kelly & Co and, if there’s a more deserving winner of a tournament in the club this year, then it will be a surprise because the victor with an amazing score of 45 points was Lorraine Wilson. Second with a very commendable 39 points on a better back nine, ahead of Janet Forbes, was Celia Devlin.
