Fantastic season for flying Teague

Donal Teague from Brocagh has just completed a very successful motocross season by winning both the Ulster and Irish Semi-expert MX1 Championships.

The Ulster championship got off to a fantastic start on April 5 with three race wins in Desertmartin, followed by a first and a second in Seaforde on May Day, where the third race was abandoned due to poor weather conditions.

A unsuccessful third round with an eleventh place after two falls meant he needed to up his game. That was exactly what Donal done, winning seven of the last nine races, with two seconds.

In actual fact, he had the championship won in Tandragee with one round still to go.

The last three wins left Donal a massive 122 points clear of the second placed man, Stephen Megarry from Hillsborough.

His Irish championship campaign started on the24th March in Downpatrick with a win and two thirds, which set him on the way to his goal of winning a championship.

It was followed with three straight wins in the next two rounds in Athlone and Desertmartin, giving him a 50 point lead.

The winning streak continued with two wins and a second or third in each of the following four rounds.

At this stage he only needed a single win in Clonroche, Co. Wexford on September 16 to win the championship outright but managed to win all three races.

Having won 18 races out of 24, he won the Irish Semi-expert MX 1 championship by 132 points ahead of Darren Bradford from Moira.

This success was a product of his overall commitment, dedication, determination from November last year when he started training. He will now be promoted to the expert class next year and will hopefully change from a Kawasaki 450F to Kawasaki 250 two-stroke.
