Mulholland emphatic Moyola winner

BY five clear points, twenty two handicapper John A. Mulholland was an emphatic winner of the Sunday Sweep Stableford held at Moyola Park Golf Club, Castledawson.

His successful return was 39 points with Graeme Clarke (11) second on 34 points and Kevin Conway (16) placed third, 32 points.

There were 9 optional twos winners, each receiving 4 golf balls. On Saturday, Niall Cosgrove (13) took first place in a similar event with a score of 38 points. Runner up was John Thompson (21) 37 points, and third Chris Devlin (20) 36 points (on last 3 holes).

Here, well done to Gerald Loughlin,who as the sole optional twos winner, secured 36 golf balls.Meanwhile, latest Seniors (over 50s) Open Stableford winners are ; 1st, P.J. Bradley (13) 42 points; 2nd, M. Kelly (19) 39 points. Optional twos, W.Smith, 9 golf balls. And, 1st – G.McKenna (21) 43 points. Optional twos, M. McNeill, 9 golf balls.

The annual Winter League is to be extended one more week and all cards must now be completed by this Sunday, 17th February.

A presentation and dinner will be held in the clubhouse at Shanemullagh on Saturday, March 2, starting 8pm. At this time, Team 1 are still top. With an overall score of 1,544 points, this team consists of – Noel McMullan, Trevor Jameson, Cecil Brown, Damien Larkin, Seamus Graffin, Cathal Graffin, Cathal Scullion and Fergal Lee.

The chasing pack have closed slightly and other placings now are; Team 9 – 1,534 points; Team 12 – 1,496 points; Team 10 – 1,495 points; Team 16 – 1,488 points; Team 11 – 1,435 points; Team 3 – 1,473 points; Team 7 - 1,447 points; Team 6 – 1,428 points; Team 8 – 1,415 points; Team 5 – 1,403 points; Team 2 – 1,391 points; Team 13 – 1,390 points; Team 4 – 1,358 points; Team 14 – 1,331 points; Team 15 – 1,261 points.

Currently, in the individual category, the leading players are – Noel Totten, 265 points (9 cards); Cathal Scullion, 264 points; Noel McMullan, 263 points; Jackie Averill, 263 points; Danny McGlone, 262 points; Cecil Brown, 261 points; Michael Browne, 260 points; Gerard Hurl, 259 points; Seamus Graffin, 258 points; Brendan Lagan, 258 points; and, Damian McCusker, 256 points. All have 10 cards.

The ladies Spring League will run from Wednesday 13th February up and including Tuesday, March 26. The entry fee of £8 must be paid when you play your first competition card. A maximum of eight cards of which six will count, and you can play on any day within the six week period. Enter team letter, name, date, handicap and number on card. Last two rounds of the ladies Coast & Country Alliance League, will be played at Antrim on 21st February, and at Gracehill on Wednesday, February 27.

The Moyola Park team have gained 6 points at home, 2 points at Kilrea, 6 points at Roe Park and 3 points at Cushendall. And, names are now being taken for the Coast & Country Alliance dinner which will be at Roe Park Golf Club on Thursday, March 21. Sign the appropriate sheet. Saturday and Sunday bring Sweep Stablefords, while Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords.
