Snooker star Ciaran hits the half-century mark!!
TT2709-100JS
Ciaran Kelly has made quite a few breaks in his time but next Monday, July 9, he’ll compile a landmark half-century when he celebrates his 50th birthday and I believe plans are under way to mark his golden jubilee - with handshakes galore from all sorts of folk guaranteed.
The big Gervins man won his first tournament way back in 1983, defeating Peter Bayne in the final of the Mid-Ulster Championship and completed a notable double trophy triumph later that same year by winning a big tournament in the Shamrock Club
He has been individual champion and player of the year in the East Tyrone snooker league on numerous occasions in the main event and also at senior level and had graced the tables through the province and beyond with his great skill and ability ever since.
And his sporting prowess is not confined to idoor activity because he has won many golf tournaments as well and currently plays off a handicap of five!
Best wishes to the big Coalisland man and I hope he and his family and friends enjoy his special birthday.
Ciaran is seen here, centre, with his first individual cup win back in 1984 - with Declan Campbell, Peter Ferguson RIP, Jim Hughes RIP and Father Joe Quinn
