THE fascinating life story of a former Aughnacloy woman has been told in a newly published book, which is sure to be of interest to people in her native area.
Born to Herbie and Louie Rowe in 1943, the Reverend Shiela Johnson grew up in the border town and attended Dungannon High School for Girls, before leaving home at the age of 18 to work in Belfast.
After living in every province of Ireland with her h
usband, Stanley Johnson, whom she met in Omagh, Sheila came to live in County Cavan where Stanley was ordained as priest in the Church of Ireland and served as curate for Kilmore Cathedral.
Prior to her ordination to the Non Stipendiary Ministry of the Church of Ireland in 1996, Shiela served as a Diocesan Reader under the former rector of the Belturbet Group of Parishes in Co Roscommon, Archdeacon Derek Johnston.
She also conducted services in many churches around the Diocese of Kilmore. From 1997 to 2001 she was Priest in Charge of the Boyle and Roscommon Group of Parishes in Co Roscommon.
All proceeds from the book are being given to two charities, the MS Society of Ireland (Donegal Branch), and St Luke's Christian Hospital in Nablus for the provision of a CAT scanner.
The book is available in Loane's Gift Shop in Aughnacloy or can be obtained by contacting the author at 035374 9532843, whereby delivery will be arranged.
