THE outspoken judge, who described people in Tyrone as 'thick', has apologised to the entire County for his remark.
Judge Sean Martin McBride issued an apology in a statement through the Courts Service.
The District Court Judge said he regretted the "particular form of word".
The statement read: "An interaction occurred last week in Monaghan District Court which was widely published and which I wish to address.
"During a long day's work, whilst I was trying to assist a lady wrongly prosecuted due to mistaken identity, I regret that I passed a comment that was totally inappropriate about Tyrone people.
"This comment was never meant to be offensive as I have nothing but regard for the people of Tyrone, but clearly to those reading the articles it came across otherwise. For this I apologise."
The anti-Tyrone remark was made to a Donaghmore woman who had been wrongly summonsed to appear the Court.
Sarah McGrath, 22, of Garvagh Road, whose details matched another woman accused of public order offence, was forced to pay to get the case thrown out due to a legal technicality.
However, when the voluntary health worker revealed in Court that she did have the 50 euro required, Judge McBride lashed out at Tyrone people.
"You are showing the typical thickness from Tyrone people. I am well used to it through football, growing up in Donegal and different things."

This judge should lose his job. Not because of the great offence of his comment, but because of what it reveals about him. If a judge cannot fulfill his duties 'without prejudice', he cannot do his job. His job is to BE impartial (and wise). One would also expect a modicum of intelligence in that post. This is the comment of a lout. "You are showing the typical thickness from Tyrone people. I am well used to it through football, growing up in Donegal and different things." This is not acceptable. I hope his 'apology' gets the consideration it merits. People must demand high standards of a judge.
