Burns Night will be celebrated in style at the Burnavon on Friday, January 31 when the very popular annual Scottish Ceilidh is added to by a programme of Ulster Scots entertainment.
This will be an evening of two halves starting at 8pm when Kist o’ Words presenter Wilson Burgess will introduce music and song from Risin’ Stour , a dance display from Sollus Highland Dancers and a demonstration and talk on the pipes from Ian Burrows. Add to that Wilson’s own repertoire of yarns and recitals and you are sure of a great start to a great evening.
Then after the interval the floor will be cleared and you are invited to get on your feet to take part in our ceilidh. With Risin’ Stour still on hand to provide live music, dance leaders Ken and Linda McLean will show you how it is done and then ask you to join them.
This event is the first of its kind at the Burnavon and we think it has something for everyone. Top quality Ulster Scots music, song, dance and humour, to watch and to take part in – this has to be the perfect way to shake off any January blues still lurking around. Come by yourself, with a partner or a few friends - it really doesn’t matter – a great evening in good company is guaranteed for all.
The Burns Celebration - Ceilidh starts at 8pm with tea or coffee and shortbread, served at the interval, included in the ticket price of £10. This event is organised as part of the Arts and Cultural Development programme of Cookstown District Council.
