Another car has been broken into and a handbag stolen from someone “visiting their loved one’s final resting place” at the old graveyard near Ardboe Cross.
Police are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident, which took place around 7.30pm on Tuesday night, to come forward.
Dubbing the culprit “despicable”, the PSNI posted on Facebook: “There was another theft from a vehicle at the Ardboe Cross at approximately 7.30pm.
“A passenger window was smashed and a handbag and personal items were stolen.
“The vehicle was parked up at the graveyard at the time. We are appealing to the local community to come forward with any information and to be careful with possessions displayed in your car, and report anything suspicious.
“An investigation continues. Please contact Cookstown police via 101, with police reference number cc1156 19/4/16 and help share this post.
“Help us stop these criminals,” they added, “as this is despicable when people are visiting their loved one’s final resting place.”
Since the attack police have been patrolling the area issuing leaflets about personal item security within vehicles in response to the incident.
They said: “Several had items on display and we were happy to speak to the owners and to local residents who were all very helpful. Please report any suspicious activity to Police and help us find these criminals.
“This repeat activity has gone on too long and together we must put a stop to it.”
