Bidding opens for new gas pipeline serving Mid-Ulster

The competition to build a new £200m gas pipeline serving the west of the Province including Mid-Ulster has been launched by the Utility Regulator.

The Gas to the West project will serve Dungannon, Coalisland, Cookstown and Magherafelt as well as Strabane, Omagh, Enniskillen, and Derrylin.

Around £32.5m of the estimated cost will come from the Department of Enterprise.

Phoenix Gas and Firmus Energy, both of whom own gas pipelines in Northern Ireland, are expected to be the main bidders.
