News has emerged this evening of the tragic death of Caledon performer Ivan Vaughan who “became a victim” of Storm Desmond as he drove home from a gig in Glaslough, county Monaghan last night.

Ivan famously performed with the Plattermen under the stage name Simon Scott in the 60s and 70s, but more recently has been touring as a one-man-band.

A spokesperson for Monaghan Garda Station said it seemed Ivan had become “a victim of the floods”.

The Sergeant said the incident took place as Ivan was driving home on a minor road from Glaslough to Caledon, when his car became trapped in a dipped part of the road that had flooded.

Gardai, the Fire Service and Civil Defence all took part in a search operation after he was reported missing at 8am this morning.

Sadly, his body was found at around 1pm this afternoon.

A post mortem is due to take place in the morning.
