Coalisland man was three times legal drink drive limit

A man who drove whilst being almost three times over the legal limit has been sentenced at East Tyrone Magistrates Court.

Miroslav Stastny, 36, of Gortview Manor, Coalisland is charged with driving with excess alcohol in breath in relation to an incident on August 2 at Heritage Centre, Coalisland.

A court heard how police were on patrol and noticed the defendant driving a green Audi turning into the Heritage Centre in Coalisland and parking at an unusual angle. Police approached the vehicle and on opening the door smelt a strong intoxicating liquor. Mr Stastny admitted to police he had been drinking an hour before he left the house and had consumed two pints. Stastny failed the roadside breath test and was taken to Dungannon Custody suite were another reading produced 100mg/100ml of breath. Deputy District Judge Mateer imposed fines of £515 and a 12 month driving ban.
