An Ardboe man has been fined a total of £650 after being seen acting as an ‘illegal’ taxi by the DVA.
Department of the Environment reported that James Curran from Mullanahoe Road was seen with six passengers at a Cookstown nightclub by an enforcement officer.
Follow up checks showed he did not have the required Taxi Drivers Licence and he was fined on November 9 at Dungannon Magistrates Court for the taxi offences, which he denied.
£100 of the fine was for having no Taxi Driver’s Licence, while he must also pay £150 for no Public Service Vehicle Licence, £150 for no Taxi Operator’s Licence and £250 for having no insurance. He was also given six penalty points.
A statement on DOE’s website said: “On 14 February 2015 a DVA Enforcement Officer noted a car driven by Mr Curran enter a night club car park in Cookstown with six passengers onboard. Mr Curran was then observed receiving payment from the passengers.”
