Aughnacloy is set for an action packed week ahead with its annual summer festival starting this Thursday, July 23.
Aughnacloy Festival, which is organised by Aughnacloy Development Association and supported by the Mid Ulster council, is to take place for its third time in recent years with proceeds going towards Chest, Heart and Stroke and the town’s annual Christmas Lights Festival.
The Festival kicks off on Thursday evening with a car treasure hunt starting at 7pm in Aughnacloy Playing Fields, where the rest of the festival will be held.
Boogie in the Park takes place on Friday night and includes a BBQ from 9pm along with music headlined by Justin McGurk & the Boogie Men and a jiving competition. There will also be music from Soundwave DJ’Z.
The Family Funday on Saturday is packed with activities for all the family to enjoy. Children can have a go on the quad caterpillar rides, sumo wrestling, bouncy castles and dinosaur slides. There is also laser shooting, a dunk tank, a rodeo bull and much more, with children’s soccer and Gaelic football tournaments in the daytime.
The festival should appeal to those with a competitive streak through tug-o-war and yard of ale competitions on Saturday evening, and on Saturday night you can go dancing to music by The Man in Black followed by Soundwave DJ’Z.
For cyclists there is a 53km and 106km race on Sunday with registration from 8am and starting at 9am. The race, which saw 130 cyclists take part last year, will be passing through Emyvale, Monaghan, Caledon, Granville and Rehaghey.
The festival comes to a close on Sunday night with a traditional session in Central Bar on Main Street from 2pm until 11pm with music from Garth Brooks tribute act, Johnny Brooks.
