Invitation to reduce stress at ‘Midnfulness’ workshop in Dungannon

LIBRARIES NI would like to invite people to attend a free ‘Mindfulness’ workshop in Dungannon Library on Saturday 26th January from 10.00am - 2.00pm.

This is a great opportunity for people in the Dungannon area to learn more about Mindfulness and during this four-hour workshop, you will be taught simple yet powerful stress reduction techniques that help meet the inevitable challenges of life.

The workshop will be led and facilitated by Frank Liddy, co-founder of Belfast Mindfulness Centre and is supported by Health in Mind, a partnership project led by Libraries NI which aims to promote good mental health through information, learning and reading. Frank has been at the forefront of developing mindfulness-based initiatives to communities and groups traumatised by conflict in Northern Ireland. He is a qualified integrative humanistic counsellor and teaches ‘Mindfulness’ through the Lifelong Learning programme at Queen’s University.

Frank explains: “Mindfulness is a meditation technique which involves paying attention in a particular way - on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. It can help people meet the inevitable challenges of life in a more relaxed and calm manner. It can help diffuse tension and provide a simple yet powerful way to step back and choose a considered response. It teaches simple ‘tools’ for everyday use that can be carried into every aspect of life.”

Frances Dowds, Health in Mind Project Manager with Libraries NI, said:“Mindfulness is based on a centuries old tradition which has been used very successfully in recent years to help people cope with the stresses and strains of life and we are delighted to offer this workshop which will teach people its techniques in the relaxed and welcoming setting of Dungannon Library.

“Health in Mind plans to follow this with other opportunities to learn new skills for good mental health in other libraries across Northern Ireland.”

The Health in Mind Partnership is funded under the Big Lottery Fund’s Live and Learn programme to work together to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness by improving the understanding of mental health in the wider community and by providing opportunities to join in activities based on the themes of Information, Learning and Reading.

The workshop is free and open to all but pre-booking is essential as places are strictly limited. You can contact Dungannon Library (36 Market Square, BT70 1JD) on telephone: 028 8772 2952 or email:
