West Tyrone Sinn Féin Councillor, Glenn Campbell, has been nominated to represent Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on a new steering group that is being established to oversee the continued development of Dementia Friendly Communities.
Speaking following his appointment to the new role, Councillor Campbell said: “The Dementia Friendly Community Steering Groups are local partnership initiatives that are currently being established to encourage, promote and take forward the development of dementia friendly communities. Last year I participated in the Dementia Friendly Communities awareness workshop hosted by Alzheimer’s Society. The workshop provides an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about Dementia, becoming a ‘Dementia Friend’ in the process.”
The new Dementia Friendly Communities Steering Group is expected to hold its first meeting before Christmas and Cllr Campbell is encouraging anyone who is interested in joining or engaging with the group to get in touch. “The Western Steering Group will be a partnership between people living with Dementia in the community, DFC Champions and service users, representatives from the Western Health and Social Care Trust, local Council members and the 16 Dementia Friendly Communities Model.
“Dementia is a disease that is affecting an ever-increasing number of families across the community.
“It is important that we continue to develop Dementia Friendly Communities and I would ask interested members of the community to get in touch with me or call the Alzheimer’s Society directly by contacting Julie Morton, Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (028 9038 7789 / 07484516561).”
