Good news for Ballynakelly residents - well the little ones anyway - as Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council has approved plans to update the children’s play park.

And DUP Cllr Kim Ashton has welcomed the commitment from Dungannon District to carry out the upgrade before March 2015.

“This week I have been meeting with representatives for Killymerron and Ballynakelly to view the proposed plans for the new play parks,” she told the Times.

“The upgrades will provide young people in the area with modern, safe play facilities.

“Both areas have waited some considerable time for play parks in their area and I am very pleased this week to be viewing the proposed plans and for work to commence shortly.”

Residents of Ballynakelly, who are facing the proposition of a waste management plant near their play park, have also welcomed the move to improve their children’s facilities.

Having already picked out the play equipment they would like, they said they are looking forward to its installation on site.
