Shock and sadness have been felt in the Brackaville area following news of the sudden death of a much loved musician.

It is understood Steven O’Neill was discovered at his home this morning, Friday.

Mr O’Neill, known as Stevey, was a regular and well known face on the local music scene, and played frequently at The Four Corners Bar in Brackaville.

The bar issued a glowing tribute to their friend in a Facebook post, which reads: “On behalf of everyone at the four corners it is with deep regret we send our condolences to the Oneill family on the death of Stevey. Stevey was the most kindest caring loving person I think we have ever met and what an entertainer Sunday nights in the corner will truly never be the same RIP Stephen Oneill ‪#‎legend‬#wagonwheel#friend”

Meanwhile, Gervin’s Bar in Coalisland said Stephen was “a great friend” and a “delight to work with”.

In a message posted online this afternoon, the management of the premises said: “Philip, Noeleen, the staff and patrons of Gervins Bar wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Stephen O’Neill following his untimely passing.

“Stephen was a great friend of the bar and a delight to work with. It is so difficult to take in he has gone. The microphone may be silent but the memories will live on. Rest in Peace Stephen.”

A friend of Mr O’Neill’s also recalled Stevey’s generosity and kindness to those he met and said the popular musician, understood to be in his 40s, would be sadly missed.
