Cookstown District Council’s Enforcement officer has issued an appeal to dog owners to ensure their pets are secured at night.
The appeal comes after a spate of of serious sheep worrying in the Loughbracken and Gortscraheen Road areas of Pomeroy.
The Enforcement Officer confirmed that investigations are on-going into the attacks, and emphasised the dog owner(s) responsible for this damage would be liable for any compensation that may be payable together with any legal actions that may be taken under the Dogs (NI) Order 1983.
All dog owners have a duty to ensure that their dogs are kept under control at all times. Please ensure that you take all necessary steps to make sure the dog does not stray and become responsible for any of these types of incidents on farmland.
If you have any information which may assist Council in identifying the dogs involved in recent incidents, please contact the Enforcement Officer – Environmental Health Department at Tel. No.: 028 867 62205 or via our Website at www.cookstown.gov.uk
