SINN Féin has announced plans for this year’s Martin Hurson Commemoration in Galbally.
This year marks the 32nd Anniversary of the death of the Tyrone man on Hunger Strike as a part of the 1981 Hunger Strike.
Announcing the plans member of the Sinn Féin Commemoration Committee Paul Kelly said: “This years commemoration for Martin Hurson will take place at his Graveside at 6:30pm on Saturday 13th July. The main speaker for this years commemoration will be Michelle Gildernew MP. This in itself is significant that Michelle holds the same seat as Bobby Sands was elected to in 1981 when he was on Hunger Strike.
“In addition to the Commemoration the National Hunger Strike Exhibition will be on display in the Galbally Community Centre during the day and will also be complimented by video clips and images from the 1981 era.
“The annual Martin Hurson Football Tournament will also take place in Galbally. The Semi finals kick off at 3pm with the finals scheduled for 4pm. The tournament has been a very successful event going back many years and I expect this years finals to be another worthwhile event. I would call upon people to support these events in memory of Tyrone Hunger Strike Martin Hurson.”
