Ulster Unionist MP Tom Elliott has said he will transfer his vote to pro unionist candidates ahead of the SDLP in the upcoming election.
On Sunday, UUP leader Mike Nesbitt said that he would be voting for the UUP candidate in East Belfast, where he lives, and then immediately transferring to the SDLP – ahead of pro-Union DUP, TUV, Conservative and PUP candidates.
However, Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP Mr Elliott told the News Letter this morning: “If Mike Nesbitt transfers his vote to the SDLP that is his personal decision. I personally vote all the way down the card and give every candidate a preference, apart from Sinn Fein. I will give pro-unionist candidates a higher preference than others.
“I know on our own election literature in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, we encourage the electorate to transfer to all pro union parties. This is what we have always done.”
