Work is expected to start on a new play park in the Killen area of Coalisland, according to a local councillor.

Torrent representative, Cllr Joe O’Neill, welcomed the news that the new facilities had been given the green light.

Councillor O’Neill said, “I have fought tirelessly for this at council level as the residents and children of this rural area deserve to have the old play park re-developed.”

The Killen area, outside Coalisland, is rural in nature but has become heavily built-up in recent years, with a number of housing developments.

The Sinn Fein councillor continued:

“This derelict site has been a huge issue for the local people and they had contacted me to see if I could get the play park reinstated.”

Cllr O’Neill pledged to continue his work for the area:

“I am delighted with the news and for the local community. Thankfully we have a strong Sinn Fein team who will continue to work hard for the local people in the new Mid Ulster Council for other areas that don’t have this provision.”
