MANY congratulations to the Year 8 pupils from St. Joseph's Grammar School, Donaghmore on their outstanding performance in the World Maths Day 2010 mental arithmetic challenge.
St. Joseph’s was one of 56,082 schools from 235 countries who united to set a new world record by correctly answering 479,732,613 mental arithmetic questions.
It was an exciting competition and both staff and pupils in St. Joseph’s were delighted with their achievements. Those who answered most questions correctly were : Peter Tuohey , Christina Ward, Jessica Mulgrew, Darren O’Kane, Ben McHugh, Sonia Owens, Niamh Mockford, Grace Donnelly, Conor Quinn, and Karen McAllister.
Top scorers in a time of one minute were : James McNamee, Jessica Mulgrew, Mark McIlvanna, Sarah Quinn, Peter Tuohey, Niamh Mockford, Conor Quinn, Courtney Gallagher, Caoimhe Shields and Amy Corrigan. Most improved players throughout the day were : Eoghan Hagan, Molai Madden, Megan Davidson, Sonia Owens, Grace Donnelly, Megan Currie, Karen McAllister, Eleanor Kasikis, Amy Corrigan and Clare Gormley. All those who took part thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
