Polish man shot in leg

A POLISH national has been shot and stabbed during an attack at Lineside, Coalisland, on Sunday night.

Police were alerted by hospital staff after the injured man sought treatment at Craigavon Area Hospital shortly after 10pm.

The injuries, which were not life-threatening, consisted of a small calibre bullet wound to his lower leg and a minor stab wound.

The individual told police he had been walking home towards Gortgonis, when two men stopped him for a cigarette.

After saying he did not smoke, the victim walked off and heard a sound like a firework going off.

He felt a sharp pain in the back of his leg, but was able to run home.

Police say they are unsure of the motivation behind the attack, and have asked any witnesses to come forward.
