Augher Stars get ‘KickStart’

Local football club Augher Stars Youth is amongst the first in Northern Ireland to benefit from a new grants scheme as part of McDonald’s dedicated grassroots football website, McDonald’s Kickstart.

McDonald’s Kickstart Grants allows clubs to apply for one-off funding of between £500 to £2500 for a single project. Augher Stars Youth has received £1,400 for the modernisation of its changing facilities including plumbing repairs, repainting and the installation of new internal doors.

Goalkeeping legend and McDonald’s Head of Northern Ireland Football Pat Jennings commented on the latest recipient of the grant.

“I’m delighted that through our McDonald’s Kickstart Grants we are able to support local football clubs throughout Northern Ireland. Clubs like Augher Stars Youth make a significant contribution the game at grassroots level and to local communities so it is great that McDonald’s can provide tailored support to match the needs of local grassroots football clubs.”

After four years of running soccer schools in Augher it was decided to form a club to compete in the Brendan Keogh Youth League and according to Club Chairman Ian McClung, there is much untapped talent that the club can benefit from.

“Previously there were no youth football teams in the Augher, Clogher, Ballygawley or Aughnacloy areas so I’d like to thank McDonald’s as our club now has facilities which will meet the needs of a youth team. We have plenty of children who will be given the opportunity to develop as young footballers and through the modernisation of the facilities we are providing a clean, tidy, hygienic facility which will hopefully grow to serve more boys and girls in the local area.”

McDonald’s has been the Official Community Partner of the Irish FA since 2002 and through this partnership is helping young footballers shine. As part of this support McDonald’s has launched a new website dedicated to grassroots football, McDonald’s Kickstart, where local clubs can secure funding for development projects, get access to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like your child’s chance to walk out as a Player Escort at Windsor Park and useful information on coaching or running a club.
